Description: TAL-BassLine-101 is a VST emulation of the Roland SH101 and similar synths.
TAL-BassLine-101 is the follow up to the TAL-BassLine which was a virtual analog bass synthesizer modeled from the classic Roland SH101. Whereas the original TAL-BassLine was basic and replicated the SH101 nicely, the TAL-BassLine-101 is a SH101 taken to the next level, adding features unheard of when he SH101 was originally released in the early 80s. We get Midi learn and automation for all the controls, an expanded Arpeggiator for host and midi clock, a step sequencer with up to 64 steps and recording, 6 voice poly and MIDI export and loads of presets (over 300). And that’s just for starters.
Is it any good? In a word: yes! The interface is free of clutter and amazing to look at. For your bass needs look no further. There’s enough in the presets to keep you satisfied for a while. Jump into programming your own acids sounds and wobble basses is easy and the results won’t disappoint. The Arpeggiator and sequencer section is straight forward and getting a pattern going is quick and without fuss. Most software arpeggiators usually leave me disappointed. They’re either too basic or too complex. This one sits nicely in the middle.
Conclussion: It’s a bass synth! It does the job without fuss. The results are great and the synth engine isn’t too deep to get lost in. It’s great they haven’t left the humble SH101 behind and reinvented it into something completely different. It’s loads better, but it’s still a SH at heart.
