Description: Nave is a Wavetable Synthesizer created by Waldorf for the iPad. It features all the factory Wavetables from the Microwave, Wave and Blofeld. Nave offers an oscillator module featuring the novel Überwave that can fatten the sound by up to eight detuned oscillators. The filter section features lowpass, bandpass and highpass with either 12dB or 24dB slope. There is also a The 4-track recorder to build your own Nave songs or to simply sketch your music, inspired by the sounds of Nave.
I like. Is this a game changer for the iPad? Possibly. It’s another reason to create music on the iPad that’s for sure.
So what is it? Put simply it’s a wavetable synthesizer. I won’t go into detail here on what a wavetable is but it’s an alternative to other forms of synthesis such as LA and FM. Put simply it is a way to manipulate sounds over a period of time and modulated in some way. Various forms of wavetable synthesis have appeared in synthesizers by PPG, Korg, Sequential Circuits and Access.
Included in the sound engine are 2 wavetable oscillators and features all the factory wavetables from the Microwave, Wave and Blofeld. There is also an oscillator module called Überwave that fattens the sound with up to eight detuned oscillators.
What does it sound like: brilliant. It’s a sound designer’s playground. Mess around with the included patches by well known musicians and producers or create your own sounds simply. Experiment. And for around $20.00 it’s well worth it and more.
